The Cats Days of Summer

Summer is nice for cats! Let me tell you why. There’s sun in the summer and it shines in all the windows and makes everything warm where it’s good to relax. Poor Mommy doesn’t fit on the cat stand or the window sill and whenever she rests on the floor she tries to get up off the floor right away so she never gets to be comfortable. She just needs to learn to relax!

Okay more great things about summer. Holidays! We got a Friday the 13th last month. The best months are the ones with a Friday the 13th! I had great time celebrating with Carla and a bag of Black Catnip!

Now this month is the biggest and best day there is! MY BIRTHDAY! I’ll be seven years old on August 12. I’m a stripey Leo, so I’m half tiger and half lion. Hear that, Carla? You really don’t want to mess with me! We really don’t fight a lot. We share pretty good. Mommy says “for cats” whatever that means.

Carla and I will be sharing birthday cake on my birthday. I get crab for my birthday cake a lot because Mommy and Daddy know that’s my favorite. Next is Carla’s birthday in September. I read that makes her a Virgo. I know what Virgo means and Carla is not a Virgo! But she can pretend to be a Virgo for her birthday. I still think Leo is the best birthday to be. I wouldn’t want to be Pisces. That’s fish. I would have ate my own tail when I was a kitten!

Carla’s birthday will be right after school starts. You’re supposed to be four when you start obedience school, but since Carla will be four just a few days after school starts she’s starting when she’s three. She’s excited and I’m excited too. You just learn so much in obedience school! Daddy and Mommy listen so much better now that I graduated. I can’t wait until we’re both obedience school graduates! It’ll be all cat treats, all the time!

Happy Birthday to ME

Behind Green Eyes

Was it that long ago that I was a tiny little kitten, born in a barn in rural Virginia? Mom and Dad say it's been 15 years. But just like people say about their own birthdays, time just flies, doesn't it?

Fifteen years. They say that's old for a cat. I don't feel old. Well, OK, a little. I can't jump quite the same as when I was younger, and I can't run as fast. But I can still nudge my crazy sisters away from the food dish any time I like, and tonight that birthday cake is going to be mine, all mine!

Dad says he's a little worried about my health. Yes, I did get sick a few months ago, so sick I lost my appetite for a while (no, really, that actually happened). But Mom and Dad gave me some pills and, while I didn't really like that part, that did make me feel better. So what if I'm lighter than I used to be? Isn't that supposed to be a good thing? And if not me, who's gonna keep Dad's lap warm while he plays poker on his computer?

Give me my daily treats (and Kaline's, and Carla's), some kibbles, some critters to watch on the big cat-TV, and a warm spot to sleep, and I'm sure I'll have a few miles left on the ol' pawdometer.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Busy Summer!

Me and my birthday cake

I just celebrated my 5th birthday on August 12! Mommy served chicken birthday cake to all three of us and she and Daddy sang to me. That’s always very cool! Carla will be two this week and she’ll get to have her birthday cake in the family bowl of honor. I bet she'll like that! The bowl of honor was Aunt Azzie’s bowl. We kept it for birthdays to remember her.

We’ve had a lot going on around here this summer. Things have been okay, cut there have been some really bad things too.

In July, a bunch of worker men took over our bathroom! Mommy and Daddy had to bring our litter boxes upstairs for a few days and a bunch of noisy men invaded our house in the basement! They made so much noise my ears were throbbing! We all stayed upstairs while they were making all that noise in the bathroom. Mommy and Daddy said it was for waterproofing. What a great idea! It’s gotten wet in the basement before and I don’t like it when my paws get wet one bit! I’m so glad we have such a great staff!

Then a bug-guy was in the house. I don’t think I like him! It’s good that he kills the spiders that scare Mommy so much. Not that we can’t do that! In fact, spiders are pretty tasty. But Mommy gets all grossed out when she sees us eat them. Steenkey treats still taste better, so it’s okay for the bug-guy to kill the spiders. But what he does that is so NOT cool is that he makes it so mice can’t get in! Baggle and I like to play with mice and we’ve been telling Carla about the mice we’ve found in our basement. Well, okay, I’ve found one mouse down there since 2006, but there’s always a chance to find more. I look for them all the time. Now, the bug-guy came and used some stuff to chase them away. Like they weren’t having a hard enough time getting in before.

Baggle and I have decided that we wanted to share Behind Orange Eyes with Carla too. Her parts will be called Behind Dark Eyes. Her eyes aren’t dark they’re yellow, like mine, but she’s dark like I am orange, so that works okay! She has put a lot of work in on studying how to type in human and she’s not too bad.

The other big noisy thing that’s been going on is the Reds! Boy they are doing good this year and that makes Mommy happy, really happy! I like it when Mommy is happy and if baseball makes her as happy as she has been, I always want the Reds to win!

I’ll let Carla tell you about the Reds!

Behind Dark Eyes

Cat Treats For Everyone!

I think you all know that we are a huge baseball family. How could we be anything else? Kaline and Me are both named after famous baseball players! Baggle wasn’t named after a baseball player, but Kaline says he’s shaped like an old-school umpire. I don’t know what that means, but Kaline says I should Google “fat umpires.”

Anyway, we love red baseball things a lot. We like blue things and orange things too, but we really love red things. The Reds, in Cincinnati and the Red Sox in Boston. Carl Yastrzemski used to play in Boston. That’s where Daddy got my name. He liked Carl Yastrzemski when he was little.

This year the Reds are doing really good! When the Reds win, Mommy yells, “Reds win! Cat treats for everyone!” and gives us all treats. Then when the Cardinals lose, she does it again! “Cardinals lose, cat treats for everyone!” and more treats! Baseball is SO cool!

GO RED BASEBALLS!

Happy Birthday Kaline!

..

Yeah, Mommy tells me it’s purrtenshis to talk in third person, but I’m a cat. I purr when I’m happy, so it’s good when I purr and on my birthday, I definitely purr, so I guess I am purrtenshis!

I don’t really remember being born, I was really young then but I remember that I lost my Mommy, so I had to find her. I was scared...and cold! I still don’t like being cold. I found someplace warm to take a nap and I remember waking up and hearing someone near the car I was sleeping in. I cried. Remember, I WAS a baby. I was crying because I was hungry.

Well, as luck, or maybe fate, would have it, I found exactly what I was looking for. I wanted my Mommy and I got to meet my Daddy when I found her! It wasn’t until a couple years later that I found out that I was adopted. That’s why Mommy doesn’t look like me. Daddy doesn’t either. We don’t know where my first Mommy is or where I got lost, but I don’t worry about it. I love Mommy and Daddy whether or not I was actually in their litter.

So today, Kaline is four years old! Yes, I’m totally purrtenshis about it. Heck, I’m probably purrtwentyshis!

Mommy and Daddy sang to me tonight and Mommy dished out the birthday cake. I got Surf and Turf birthday cake and boy was it yummy! That’s me eating my birthday cake in the birthday bowl on top of this blog entry. Mommy had to hold on to Baggle after he finished his part of my cake because he always steals my treats if she doesn’t hold him and, after all, it is MY birthday! I ate about half my piece and then I was feeling generous, so I let Baggle clean the bowl.

Later I watched some baseball. The Tigers weren’t doing well, which made me mad. I was named after a Tiger and it’s my birthday – they are supposed to win on my birthday! So I went to see Mommy and got a nice cuddle.

Now as my birthday ends, it’s time for birthday Steenkey treats and maybe some more petting from Mommy and Daddy.

I may have even get purrthirtyshis!

My Brother the Baseball Player?

See? He won't even face the camera!

Hi there loyal readers!

Can you believe my cousins turned 14 yesterday?? Boy are they OLD! They are teenagers again like I was last year. Now I’m a full mature adult. It’ll be neat next year. We'll all be adults and can do adult stuff when they visit. Happy birthday Emm and Tee!!

But now for some more serious stuff! Baggle has decided to play baseball. They have open camps for the Mud Hens in the spring and he wants to try out. Oh he didn’t say so, but I know. Personally, I think it’s because he heard about Muddy. Muddy is a GIANT bird! I think Baggle just want to hunt him down and eat him. Baggle eats everything. But he going about this being a baseball player the wrong way.

Baggle was having some trouble and he had a spot on his back that was losing hair. He went to the vet. They left me home alone, but I’m a full adult cat now, I wasn’t scared or anything. But when Baggle came home he smelled funny. He said he got a jection in him. Now I read on the internet. I know what jections in you are for! And that’s what he smelled like too. Bad juice! Daddy says juicers are bad, they are cheaters. The bad juice makes you hit things hard, like that home run guy or the one in New York. They are bad cheaters! And now Baggle is going to cheat too. And for what? So he can hit Muddy hard enough to eat him and probably get too full and get sick.

I don’t want my brother to get sick, or play baseball or have bad juice jected in him! It all makes stealing my treats seem so silly a thing to get upset about! We need to tell the doctor not to shoot Baggle with steroids anymore. Say No to juice! I gotta go help my brother change his mind!

Happy Birthday to ME!

Resting up for my birthday with my brother
(I was to excited to fall asleep right away!)

Today is August 12, MY BIRTHDAY! I am three years old today! YAY ME!

"Yay me," is because I am three. That’s pretty much a record in the truck stop. I’d be a veteran feral cat! I guess it’s good thing that I quit being feral. I didn’t want to be a doctor anyway!

Mommy says birthdays are a good day to think about how lucky you are and be thankful for all of the love you have. I am pretty lucky. I have a Mommy and Daddy who love me and a brother who loves my treats.

Okay, Baggle is good for playing with and cuddling with, but what he really does well is steal my treats! Tonight I’ll get the big treat bowl with my birthday cake in it. That’s a tradition. The big bowl with the cat shape was Aunt Azzie’s bowl. She left it to us when she went to the Rainbow Bridge, but Mommy and Daddy say we should use it for special times, like birthdays. When it’s your birthday, you get the special bowl. I wonder what flavor of cake I’ll get? I hope it’s salmon or lobster.

So I’m thankful for Lobster Bisque and Steenkey treats. Steenkey treats are my favorite treats! They are a very good brand of treat, very delicious and they smell like pure Heaven! When Mommy or Daddy smell them, they lean their heads back and look at the sky, like they are saying “thank you.” They’re THAT good! Maybe we’ll get extra Steenkey treats tonight since it’s my birthday. I’ll have to talk to Baggle, we can at least try to get more!

So now I am three. I’ve had almost three years with Mommy and Daddy, yummy food and lots of it, treats, cool toys and NO FLEAS! Tonight, I get birthday cake and I hope extra Steenkey Treats! Life at three is good!
